We Declare Room for All Officially OPEN

Broxburn United Sports Club has officially opened its new state-of-the-art sports facility ‘Room for All’.

Representing the culmination of a seven year major building programme at the Albyn Park site, ‘Room for All’ provides the space to deliver a wide range of sporting and healthy living activities, including Dance, Taekwondo and Yoga.

To mark the official opening of its extended facility, the club was visited by Maureen McGinn, Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, who met with a number of the community members who will benefit from the improved space.

With £580,000 funding from Social Investment Scotland (SIS), The Big Lottery Scotland, The Robertson Trust and Sportscotland, Room for All will enable the sports club to widen the sporting and educational opportunities it provides to the community.

Broxburn United Sports Club was established as a charity aimed at creating sporting pathways and opportunities for young people in the local area. However, due to a growing population and increasing club membership, its facilities were not of a standard to allow the continued development and growth of the club. Plans were put in place to build a new community sports facility to improve the capacity of the facilities to deliver an enhanced experience that would help the club deliver on its ambitions to grow and include all sections of the community who wanted to take part in the club’s activities.

Work started on the new building at Albyn Park in March 2009 and completed in 2010. Since reopening six years ago with a full size 3G pitch, a boxing pavilion, multiple changing rooms, a physiotherapy treatment room and a café, it has become a home for 33 sports teams, almost 700 player members, and 120 volunteers who coach and organise activity

The completion of ‘Room for All’ marks the final stage of the club’s building programme.

Speaking at the opening, Maureen McGinn, Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair said:  "We are delighted that National Lottery good causes funding helped Broxburn United Sports Club create ‘Room for All’, their fantastic new social and sporting community hub.  It is already a popular venue where people come to be active, to learn new skills, meet old friends and make new ones.  It's important to celebrate places like this which are a source of community pride, are welcoming, are open to all, and will continue to produce community benefit for years to come.  This formal opening marks the start of another wonderful chapter for this first class facility and this inspiring organisation."

Alastair Davis, CEO of Social Investment Scotland said: ‘’This is a great example of where social investment can help develop crucial facilities at the heart of the community. We’re delighted to be able to help provide funding for ‘Room for All’, which as the name suggests, will be an inclusive and accessible space in Broxburn.’’

Thank you to iMPACT Dance, our Walking Footballers, and Colts President, Darren Pegg and players for putting on a fantastic showcase demonstrating our work.
