BUSC Supports Specialist Physio Programme for Young People

Broxburn United Sports Club were delighted to host Movement Physiotherapy's Easter Camp.  We welcomed children and their parents from all over Scotland to the Albyn Park.

Movement Physiotherapy is run by local physiotherapist Kirsteen Grieve.   Kirsteen explains 'we are a private practice which specialises in the treatment of children, although we also treat adults with long-term disability.  We provide a mobile service, working primarily within family homes doing 1:1 highly specialised physiotherapy sessions. These sessions are designed to be highly motivating, fun and effective at achieving the things which matter most to the child and their families.

Over the holidays, we run group therapy sessions, where young people get together to motivate and inspire each other to achieve more. Group therapy offers a unique opportunity for these children to be alongside similar peers, which is hugely beneficial in so may ways, particularly emotionally as well as physically.

This Easter, 5 young people between the ages of 7 and 13 years got together for 4 days of hard work and challenges. We used the Room For All at BUSC for the first time this year, and they LOVED it! The mirrored space provided a new opportunity for them to really see how they move, and use this feedback to help them improve their posture and movements. The AV facilities were also a brilliant chance for them to share video clips of what they had been up to since their last get together. the break-out room also allowed the parents to have a break and grab a much needed cuppa and the chance to chat away from the kids.

We will definitely be returning to BUSC for our future groups in this area.  The staff were super friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our needs.

Many thanks to all from all the kids, parents and from Movement Physiotherapy for having us. It was awesome!'

The BUSC staff were overwhelmed at the effort the children put into their sessions.  They were truly inspirational.  We look forward to welcoming our new friends back to Albyn Park in the near future.

Walking Ambassadors Honoured at St Nicholas Assembly

IMG_0017.JPG

We here at BUSC were delighted to see our Walking Ambassadors at St Nicholas Primary School be recognised for their achievements so far this year.

Our coach James was on hand at the St Nicholas Got Talent assembly to hand out certificates and a special medal to acknowledge how well the pupils have been doing in their aid to reduce our carbon footprint.

The Ambassadors informed their fellow pupils about the benefits of walking to school instead of getting a lift in the car, as well as all the facts and history that James had taught them on their adventures. The assembly then took part in a Who Wants to be a Millionaire quiz - Walking Ambassador style.

We were also treated to a special rendition of 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' by The Proclaimers, and teacher Mrs. Bell was also rewarded with a certificate for her help in putting the group together. Without her, none of this would be possible.

At the end of the assembly, the teachers performed a special Ghostbusters dance and James and our social media manager Kieran got a dose of silly string on their clothes to explain to their families about afterwards!

We hope the Ambassadors, as well as their fellow St Nicholas pupils, have a fantastic Easter holidays, and we would like to thank James for his contribution these past few weeks.

If your child wishes to join the Walking Group, all they have to do is ask!
