We believe that a safe, respectful, and supportive environment is essential for all members, regardless of age or vulnerability, to enjoy their sport, build community, and thrive.

We hold ourselves accountable to these standards and are dedicated to fostering a culture where everyone feels safe, respected, and heard.

The safety of all our members, children and adults alike, is our highest and non-negotiable priority.

Our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Policy is aligned with the National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland 2021 (updated 2023), the principles of ‘Getting it Right for Every Child’ (GIRFEC), the Articles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.

BUSC firmly believes that safeguarding is not something done to children, but with them. We are committed to upholding every child's right to be heard in matters affecting them.

In line with our unwavering commitment to a rights-based approach and our duties under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Broxburn United Sports Club formalises its approach to understanding and evaluating the real-world impact of our policies and practices through a Children's Rights and Wellbeing Impact Assessment (CRWIA).

We recognise that children are the primary experts in their own 'lived experience' at the club, and this assessment ensures their perspectives are central to our governance and development.

Our CRWIA is informed through the practical methods outlined in our 'Toolkit for Meaningful Engagement'. This involves proactively gathering feedback from children and young people across different age groups using age-appropriate techniques such as facilitated discussions, anonymous surveys, and focus groups.

The assessment focuses on how our safeguarding environment is perceived by the children themselves and the impact of policy or programme delivery on their rights and wellbeing, evaluating whether they feel Safe, Respected, Included, and Empowered within the club.
