Multi Sport Camp a Great Success

Today sees the end of week 1 of the Easter Holiday Camps and its been a busy one at Albyn Park.  More than 18 kids have taken part in the Multi Sport Camp throughout the week with those who attended getting the opportunity to try out a whole host of sports and fun games.  Attendees had the opportunity to take part in Handball, Mini Golf, Football, Rounders, Rugby, Boxing, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Free Play opportunities as well as other fun activities such as Capture the Flag, the Cube and Relays etc

As well as those who attended we also owe a huge amount of thanks to our young volunteers who continue to support us with delivery of camps and programmes throughout the club.  This week Marcus Millar, Ruairidh Little, David Howie and Calum Boyle were good enough to help us as we try and provide opportunities for young volunteers within the club to gain valuable experience in the work place environment.  We are delighted that they have also agreed to help out next week with our Football Camp.  Thanks again guys.

If you are interested in volunteering with BUSC please contact a member of staff for further details.

Finally we still have spaces available for our Football Camp which starts on Monday with over 24 children now signed up.  If you would like further details please contact Aidan on a.forbes@busc.org.uk

Broxburn 2016 festival

The 2016 Broxburn festival is open to registration!

This year’s event takes place in June and is open to 2005s, 2006s, 2007s and 2008 teams.  Held at one of the county’s premier clubs the games take place at Albyn Park in Broxburn on the 3G astroturf giving the players' a superb playing surface to show off their skills and enjoy the beautiful game.

Teams near and far are invited to take part and enjoy the game which will no doubt be bathed in the Scottish sunshine.  The recent girls festival was a great advert for football with teams travelling from Glasgow and Aberdeen enjoying the facilities and football.

This year’s soccer 7s and soccer 5s event  aims to provide all teams with competitive and fun games.  The festival is trophy free and gives the players a platform to express their talent and enjoy the games.  Last year’s festival saw 300+ players have a cracking time and its game on for more of the same this year.  So come on, register your team and give the players a great time.

The festival is in partnership with the Live for Life Foundation.  The foundation provides support for families and those affected by Huntington's Disease.  For more information and to support the foundation visit their website.

Good Friday @Albyn Park

Its been a busy morning here already at Albyn Park with our new Friday Walking Football Group in for a kick-about.  If you are interested in attending Walking Football on either a Tuesday or Friday please contact Leigh Lauder on l.lauder@busc.org.uk  We are particularly keen to grow the Friday class but new members are welcome at both.  We currently have around 30 attending on a Tuesday morning and 10 on a Friday.

We were also delighted to welcome West Lothian Football Development Officer Jim Grant down to the facility with around 16 of his coaches to take part in an in-service session designed to up-skill coaches and provide them with best practice and new ideas.  Always great to see Jim and his team down using the facility.

This afternoon as always is Free Play Friday where your kids can come down and use the facility free of charge as we continue to open our doors to the local community.

Finally tonight we are also delighted to host the East of Scotland Amateur Cup Final between Fernieside FC (Edinburgh) and Pennies AFC (Falkirk).  A good crowd is anticipated but if you want another weekend football fix why not come down and take in the match?  It's sure to be a good one.  This replaces our normal fixture of the West Lothian Soccer Fives which will return on the 15th April.

Duo Cruise through Cycle Leader Training

BUSC are delighted to announce that both James and Aidan attended the Cycle Ride Leader Course delivered in conjunction with the Lowport Centre and Cycle Scotland. The course itself was hosted at the Vennie (Social Enterprise/Youth Club) in Livingston and saw staff members from across various local organisations come together to take part.

The Cycle Ride Leader Course is aimed at those who will be leading groups through a variety of rides within their local area.  Such programmes are likely to be aimed at groups and the emphasis may be on those returning to cycling, those who would like to be more active, a health focus or merely to highlight the range of rides available locally.

Initially this training will be used to support the delivery during the hugely successful Holiday Camp programme that BUSC currently deliver but we are hopeful that we can utilise this further looking ahead.  Already tentative discussions have taken place with Donaldson’s School, Linlithgow with a view to establishing some weekly cycles to further support the needs of their pupils.

Aidan said “the course was hugely enjoyable and it was great to delve in to the theory behind planning a successful cycle.  Both James and I have taken a lot out of the course and we will have further discussions down the line about how we can develop this further.  Finally a special thanks to Dave Ogilvie, Course Leader for his informative and entertaining approach to the course”.

For those of you who are interested in cycling but do not have access to a bike please speak to West Lothian Council for further information on your local Bike Banks where you can hire pushbikes free of charge.

Away up in Gorgie..

....At Tynecastle Park, you could find the Alive & Kickin Sporting Memories participants gathering to hear all about Heart of Midlothian Football Club and see the famous stadium, which is steeped in history.

Thanks to Community Manager Alan White, we were taken on a tour of the ground, looking at the Board Room, Hospitality Suites, including the famous John Robertson Lounge, the Home Changing Room and the Memorial Garden.

Our group were impressed by the many quotes on show around Tynecastle, and how the current Hearts Team pay tribute to the players of 1914 who went to the War and never returned home.

One of the highlights of the tour was meeting one of the most famous Hearts legends John Robertson, who was happy to answer some questions from the avid Hearts (& Hibs) Supporters in our group.

We have future plans to visit Ibrox Stadium and Celtic Park, so if you would like to join our Sporting Memories Programme, the next meeting is on Tuesday 12th April at the Albyn Park, 12.30-2pm.  We provide the pie and bovril, for just £2.
