Midnight League Finals

BUSC/Broxburn Academy yesterday took part in the Bank of Scotland Midnight League Finals hosted by the Scottish FA South East Region at Falkirk Stadium.

With the support of the school we were able to enter three teams in to the final to represent West Lothian with the categories being girl, boys aged 12-14 and boys aged 12-16.  The format of the festival was five aside with groups stages to negotiate before entering any potential knock out semi finals.  This task was made more challenging with teams from every local authority in fife and the lothians taking part.

After promising starts and competitive fixtures aplenty in the morning all three of the teams entered qualified from one of the top two spots and went through to the semi finals.  After strong performances across the board all three emerged victorious and would partake in the finals.  A great achievement.

In the finals all three teams came out firing early doors and all had a lead within the first 2 minutes.  The girls went on to lose out 2-1 against a strong opponents from Midlothian but should be delighted with their performance and in particular an 8-1 semi final victory over St Mungos HS who are one of the strongest girls school teams in Scotland.

The 12-14 boys teams also came through an extremely competitive semi final against opposition but the boys were to strong and went through to the final to compete against Burntisland.  In an extremely close game Burntisland edged the boys out 5-4 but massive well credit for getting through.

Finally it was the chance for the boys 14-16 team who played Penicuik in the final lookng to avenge their group stage defeat.  The boys stepped up and put any dissapointment behind them to come out comfortable 4-2 winners.

Once again thanks to Broxburn Academy for supporting and in particular Mick Howley for all his efforts.  Also the young volunteers who supported and most importantly the teams that tried their hardest to bring back an unlikely treble to the town.

Girls teams sponsorship

It’s with great pleasure to announce that all the Broxburn girls teams here are being sponsored.  For the first time ever the whole group is being sponsored, u9s, u11s, u13s and the new u15s.

Many many thanks to everyone at Paragon Inks and Bonnie Quines for their involvement. Soon the girls will be wearing the new Stanno home kit which will emblazon the sponsor name and logo.

Paragon Inks is sponsoring the u9, u11 and u15 age groups.  While Bonnie Quines is sponsoring both teams at the u13 age group.

Paragon Inks is based on the outskirts of Livingston and employs many from the Broxburn area, including parents of the girls and also of the boys who play at Broxburn.  Its fantastic it has decided to partner with the girls teams.

Bonnie Quines is a Broxburn based award winning beautician offering beauty and nail salon services.  Started in 2011 by local business woman Andrea Waddell it . After talking to Andrea it was clear that partnering together made sense.  More information on what’s available at Bonnie Quines website http://bonniequines.com/.

Andrea recently popped along to Albyn Park to watch the U13 teams play, with the U15s showing off their new kit.

Awesome April and magical May for Broxburn Athletic Colts

It's the end of season month for many youth teams and what a month is has been.

Starting off with the County Cup finals five age groups, from a maximum six, were represented over the weekend.  The games at Livingston's Toni Macaroni Stadium provided plenty of highlights as four of the teams left victorious.

A fantastic achievement for all five teams involved.  Leaving with four winners sets an amazingly high standard.  Well done to all the officials and players for a great show over the County Cup weekend.

Hot on heels followed a spectacular opportunity for the u13s age group.  Local company SKF provided a tournament with the winners travelling to Gothenburg Sweden to play in the famous Gothia Cup.

2003 United triumphed and in July will make their way to Gothenburg to play teams around the world.  I'm sure everyone involved will have a fantastic time and create memories that will last a lifetime.

In the last week the games have continued thick and fast as well as success.  2003 United, 2002 Whites, 2001 Colts and U19s respectively won the respective U13, U14, U15 and U19 leagues.  2000 Colts finished their league campaign finishing second in the U16 league, while 1999 United also finished second in the U17 league.

1999 United continued the cup success winning the Peter Anderson Cup.

June may bring further cup success with 2003 Diamonds and 2003 United playing to win the U13 League Cup.   U19s play Fauldhouse int he U19 League Cup and 2001 Colts play league runners up Bathgate in the U15 League Cup.  Good luck to you all.

Election Days – Holiday Camp Care Package (Albyn Park Broxburn)

As many of you will be aware voting takes place on 5th May for the Scottish Elections and 23rd June 2016 for the EU Referendum In/Out Vote.  On this day many schools across the West Lothian authority will all be closed as the schools are transformed in to local polling stations.

BUSC will therefore be delivering a multi-sport day to help local families deal with the inconvenience caused by this.  The day itself will run between 9.30am-3.30pm however to support local families we will accommodate drop offs between 8.30am-9.30am and collections between 3.30pm & 5.00pm.  Please note that during these times kids should bring a book/tablet to entertain themselves until the camp itself gets underway.

To sign your child up for this multi-sport day care programme we will be charging £15 for one day or take advantage of two days election child care package for £28.

Please contact Aidan on a.forbes@busc.org.uk to register your child or to request any further information.

Broxburn Bike Library

BUSC are delighted that we have come to agreement with West Lothian Council to support across a number of cycling initiatives.

Firstly we are delighted to be able to support the West Lothian Bike Library in Broxburn.  Bike Libraries in West Lothian have been established for a number of years and allow people from a wide range of backgrounds to access bikes and get involved with cycling.  Access for people can range from those who suffer from homelessness to allow them to access work interviews etc to those who are just wanting to get fit and active again.  So who exactly are BUSC targeting?

Who - Anyone who fancies learning to cycle or who wants to get back on the bike aged 14 upwards

What - The bike library lends people bikes for up to one month at a time subject to terms.  They will recall bikes on a monthly basis to ensure that bikes are checked and maintained appropriately.

How - contact a.forbes@busc.org.uk for further information.

BUSC are delighted to support this initiative and hope we can help spread the word across the town and local areas for those who were unaware that the libraries were in existence.  We hope no matter what capacity you would like to borrow the bike in that you will help to support, share and grown this fantastic opportunity to access bikes in West Lothian.

Anyone who wishes to donate to support the cause please contact Aidan.  Finally we will be releasing details of further cycling accessibility initiatives over the coming days and weeks.
