Summer Spirit at the Alive & Kickin BBQ

The Annual Alive & Kickin BBQ was a resounding success with many of our participants who attend all of our five core activities, coming along to enjoy the Summer spirit.

We picked the sunniest day of last week, and even had to get the sun block on.  After fueling up with a delicious spread of burgers, sausages and pork loin with apple sauce, we had energy to burn off, so those who wanted too, enjoyed a game of Boules, Cricket and some tried their hand at the Diabolo.

The event wouldnt have been half the success it was, without our very own chef, Billy Walker.  Thank you Billy, we all appreciated your hard work and lovely food.

We are fully aware that people's routine changes over the School Holidays, and we at BUSC are keen to help you fill your time while looking after the Grandchildren.  Therefore, during July and August we have the following activities for Over 50's, and your family, friends and children.

Election Camp

Today BUSC hosted our second election day multi sport camp of the year with the ongoing EU referendum in full swing.  With the polling taking over both Broxburn and Uphall Primary Schools BUSC have continued to support the local community where we can by organising the camp and offering alternate but cheap child care support for local families.

The kids took part in a range of activities throughout the day including fun games, capture the flag, football, skills stations, tennis, badminton, table tennis, rounders and more.

Some footage of some of the kids trying out the free kick skills stations can be found on twitter and facebook as well as this article.

We hope that all the kids who attended in enjoyed their day and again thank the BUSC family for continuing to support us.  Finally if you require any information on holiday camps please visit the sporting participation section of this website or call the office on 01506 858 057.

Below is feedback from our first group who have finished their "28 Day Summer Support".  Feedback has been incredible, everyone enjoyed the easy to follow recipes and loved the planning and preparation, which was definitely the key to success, weight losses ranged from 4 to 14 pounds, with many losing 7 pounds over the 4 weeks, not bad when you consider the emphasis was not on weight loss but feeling better.

"It's been a great month for me personally ( apart from the wee viral thing I had) following the Glow plan.  As ever, thanks a million for your enthusiasm, help & support throughout - couldn't do without you

Starting the day with hot lemon had a great effect! Felt energised, less bloated & ready to face the day ahead:-)) Found it really difficult to choose my top 3 recipes as the recipes throughout the 28 days were delicious (one that I was pleasantly surprised how good it was - sesame salmon with cauliflower rice wasn't expecting that to taste soo good!!)  Here goes:-

Breakfast fav - apple pie porridge, lunch - chicken, pear & walnut salad & dinner - orange glazed salmon with white beans.  Not only easy to prepare but wonderful fresh ingredients, nutritious & tasty.

It feels brilliant to have lost 4lbs   I loved the organisation & planning, using fresh produce / herbs etc  in choosing what I would eat from the plan.  I've realised I need this to control what I am eating, instead of picking & grazing on whatever was at hand. Found I am not snacking in between meals nearly as much - result!! Also, the boys trying & enjoying the food too

One of the most exciting things going forward is that I've not tried a lot of the recipes so looking forward to trying them!

"Thanks again for a wonderful plan - I'm glowing all over!! Sorry Jill, couldn't resist!!"

"Thanks for the 28 glow days.  It made a diff.  I lost 5 lbs and my partner lost 9lbs. It was good to lose a bit before I went on a weekend away to the sunshine. So back home now and will get back to the glow recipes for the next holiday in July. Enjoyed a lot of the meals so still got some to go"

And the quote of the month

"Jill, the work you have put into The Glow Summer Support, 28 day programme is commendable. It is so easy, delighted to have lost 14lbs, loving planning ahead and cooking from scratch. Eating without thinking low fat and calories, is so easy. Never felt hungry. Still enjoying life no feeling guilty when I have a night out. So easy to get back in the routine. Thanks Jx"

Midnight League Finals

BUSC/Broxburn Academy yesterday took part in the Bank of Scotland Midnight League Finals hosted by the Scottish FA South East Region at Falkirk Stadium.

With the support of the school we were able to enter three teams in to the final to represent West Lothian with the categories being girl, boys aged 12-14 and boys aged 12-16.  The format of the festival was five aside with groups stages to negotiate before entering any potential knock out semi finals.  This task was made more challenging with teams from every local authority in fife and the lothians taking part.

After promising starts and competitive fixtures aplenty in the morning all three of the teams entered qualified from one of the top two spots and went through to the semi finals.  After strong performances across the board all three emerged victorious and would partake in the finals.  A great achievement.

In the finals all three teams came out firing early doors and all had a lead within the first 2 minutes.  The girls went on to lose out 2-1 against a strong opponents from Midlothian but should be delighted with their performance and in particular an 8-1 semi final victory over St Mungos HS who are one of the strongest girls school teams in Scotland.

The 12-14 boys teams also came through an extremely competitive semi final against opposition but the boys were to strong and went through to the final to compete against Burntisland.  In an extremely close game Burntisland edged the boys out 5-4 but massive well credit for getting through.

Finally it was the chance for the boys 14-16 team who played Penicuik in the final lookng to avenge their group stage defeat.  The boys stepped up and put any dissapointment behind them to come out comfortable 4-2 winners.

Once again thanks to Broxburn Academy for supporting and in particular Mick Howley for all his efforts.  Also the young volunteers who supported and most importantly the teams that tried their hardest to bring back an unlikely treble to the town.

Girls teams sponsorship

It’s with great pleasure to announce that all the Broxburn girls teams here are being sponsored.  For the first time ever the whole group is being sponsored, u9s, u11s, u13s and the new u15s.

Many many thanks to everyone at Paragon Inks and Bonnie Quines for their involvement. Soon the girls will be wearing the new Stanno home kit which will emblazon the sponsor name and logo.

Paragon Inks is sponsoring the u9, u11 and u15 age groups.  While Bonnie Quines is sponsoring both teams at the u13 age group.

Paragon Inks is based on the outskirts of Livingston and employs many from the Broxburn area, including parents of the girls and also of the boys who play at Broxburn.  Its fantastic it has decided to partner with the girls teams.

Bonnie Quines is a Broxburn based award winning beautician offering beauty and nail salon services.  Started in 2011 by local business woman Andrea Waddell it . After talking to Andrea it was clear that partnering together made sense.  More information on what’s available at Bonnie Quines website http://bonniequines.com/.

Andrea recently popped along to Albyn Park to watch the U13 teams play, with the U15s showing off their new kit.

Awesome April and magical May for Broxburn Athletic Colts

It's the end of season month for many youth teams and what a month is has been.

Starting off with the County Cup finals five age groups, from a maximum six, were represented over the weekend.  The games at Livingston's Toni Macaroni Stadium provided plenty of highlights as four of the teams left victorious.

A fantastic achievement for all five teams involved.  Leaving with four winners sets an amazingly high standard.  Well done to all the officials and players for a great show over the County Cup weekend.

Hot on heels followed a spectacular opportunity for the u13s age group.  Local company SKF provided a tournament with the winners travelling to Gothenburg Sweden to play in the famous Gothia Cup.

2003 United triumphed and in July will make their way to Gothenburg to play teams around the world.  I'm sure everyone involved will have a fantastic time and create memories that will last a lifetime.

In the last week the games have continued thick and fast as well as success.  2003 United, 2002 Whites, 2001 Colts and U19s respectively won the respective U13, U14, U15 and U19 leagues.  2000 Colts finished their league campaign finishing second in the U16 league, while 1999 United also finished second in the U17 league.

1999 United continued the cup success winning the Peter Anderson Cup.

June may bring further cup success with 2003 Diamonds and 2003 United playing to win the U13 League Cup.   U19s play Fauldhouse int he U19 League Cup and 2001 Colts play league runners up Bathgate in the U15 League Cup.  Good luck to you all.
